For my capstone project at Northeastern University, I wanted to create something that helped adults reach a state of play. The benefits that play offers kids is well-researched and embraced, and this value does not diminish as we age (the UN agrees). Creature Cubes reintroduce play into adults' lives through a tangible, everyday object, a handcrafted set of wooden blocks.

I led the project from concept through execution. After training at Northeastern's Maker Space, I sketched my ideas, refined the exact sizes of each piece, and built paper models to decide on scale and how the pieces interacted. I then cut, sanded, and painted each of the 18 unique wooden pieces before moving onto developing the brand system, packaging concept, and website. I selected typefaces and a color palette that echoed the geometry and vibrancy of the blocks.
This project pushed me into an unfamiliar medium, sharpening my precision, patience, and craftsmanship. I discovered parallels between designing digital and physical experiences, something that continues to influence my thoughtful, human-centered design process across all disciplines.
